French map of Kangaroo Island 1803 by Baudin & Freycinet⁣⁣⁣⁣, surveyed at the time of the encounter between, Flinders and Baudin in their circumnavigations of Terra Australis..⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣.⁣⁣⁣⁣Despite their countries being at war, Flinders and Baudin famously met at nearby Encounter Bay (on the mouth of the Murray River) in 1802, while charting the Australian coastline in their respective vessels The Investigator and La Geographie. Sailing in opposite directions, evidently they exchanged charts over breakfast which confirmed that the great Australian continent was indeed an island. Flinders went on to recommended to Baudin where to stop at Kangaroo Island for water and food. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
