A large world map published in America during the civil war era, Colton's well-regarded atlas's were produced for commercial distribution across the USA, and, as claimed on the title block, were 'compiled from the latest and most authentic sources - Exhibiting the recent Arctic and Antarctic discoveries & explorations.' Australia is shown prior to the establishment of Queensland as a separate colony to New South Wales in 1859.
