Date 1685
A great world map from the Dutch golden age of cartography, drawing heavily from De Wit's map of 1668. Surrounding the hemispheres are allegorical scenes of Fire, Air, Earth and Water. Fire is represented by war; Air by celestial beings in the clouds including figures of lightning, wind and rain. Earth is bountiful agriculture, and Water is shown as ships, a trident-bearing Poseidon, pearls and a whale spout.
