Creator Frederick de Wit (1630 - 1706)
Date 1688
A classic double-hemisphere world map from the Dutch golden age of cartography, decorated with mythological scenes of the four seasons and the zodiac, bachanallias and abundant arcadian landscapes. The first outlines of Australia and New Zealand appear on European maps following Abel Tasman's voyages 1642-1644. The colouring is elegant and the engraver's draftsmanship very fine.
