The 660m Station Pier opened in 1854, as Melbourne coped with a huge influx of people, goods and capital coming in with gold rush. Hobson's Bay was crowded with clippers from around the world, jostling for a landing at the pier, which linked with sidings of the Hobson's Bay Railway.
