Native to southwestern Australia. Common names include West Australian Waratah or Waratah Banksia. A print from a specimen collected in King George Sound in December 1801...Master illustrator Ferdinand Bauer accompanied Matthew Flinders on the voyage of the HMS Investigator to circumnavigate Australia, 1801-1803. He returned to England accompanied by 11 cases of drawings containing 1,542 Australian plants, 180 Norfolk Island plants, and over 300 animals. Bauer’s original drawings are preserved in the Natural History Museum, London, and a selection published in his ‘Illustrationes florae Novae Hollandiae’, London, 1813. They are some of the finest and most historically significant Australian natural history illustrations ever produced.
