The name 'waratah' comes from the Eora Aboriginal people, the original inhabitants of the Sydney area...This elegant Waratah by James Sowerby, is one of the earliest and finest published; from ‘A Specimen of the Botany of New Holland’⁣⁣, the first published book on the flora of Australia, 1793. The scientific name of the waratah was originally 'Embothrium speciosissumum'; now Telopea speciosissumum.
