The name 'waratah' comes from the Eora Aboriginal people, the original inhabitants of the Sydney area...This fine Waratah print was first published in Herbier Général de l’Amateur, Paris, 1820. French botanical artist Pancrace Bessa (1772–1846), of the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle, and flower painter to French aristocracy, contributed his skills to some of the most important collections and botanical publications of the early 19th century. He also taught painting and exhibited at the Paris Salon. Académie Royale des Sciences in Paris. He trained with the great French natural history illustrator, Pierre-Joseph Redouté - the ‘Rapheal of Flowers’.
