The Tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii), following the extinction of the Tasmanian Tiger in 1936, became the world's largest carnivorous marsupial. Found only in Tasmania, it is listed as Endangered, threatened by devil facial tumour disease (DFTD), a severe condition that has ravaged Tasmania's wild devils. (Syn Sarcophilus ursinus: Gould)
